I was not aware that Amazon would be one of my best money makers when I started promoting their products with a simple Blogger blog in 2007. Especially, for last quarter of 2009, my earnings from Amazon commissions have rocketed (approx. $900 currently) as a result of my continuous efforts of writing articles, SEO, link building, email newsletters and usage of social networks. If you are just earning a few dollars a month from Amazon and wonder how to reach a few hundred dollars in several months, these Amazon money making tips will surely help you.
1 - SEO And Amazon Affiliate Program
A careful strategy of SEO is the key to continuous income from Amazon affiliate program. It involves two parts.
- Choosing the right products to write articles
- Choosing the best keywords set
Choosing Right Product :
A Successful Example : Apple iPhone accessories category is my capital money maker in my blog network and still I get sales each day. First, I had started writing reviews about iPhone games. After a good foundation, I opened a blog about iPhone cases, then iPhone books, then iPhone chargers etc seperately. At Amazon shop, technology and mobile related accessories are sold easily because most geeks daily buy something from Amazon. Follow technology news closely. If you see that let's say a phone named Samsung SuperDuper will be revealed on next month, it is a good strategy to prepare a few blogs with articles beforehand about SuperDuper cases, games etc. Eventually, related accessories will be available on Amazon and people will rush to them leaving you easy commissions. A Bad Example : I had thought that people who were looking for French movies would buy DVDs easily. Using too broad or too narrow keywords in your SEO links is not a good strategy. Instead, concentrate on how people would really look for an item with long tail keywords. 5 - Huge Social Network and Amazon
Do not underestimate the power of other Social Networks like Facebook, Digg, Reddit, Twitter and specific social platforms. I know several people who are operating tens of Facebook accounts and try to pile thousands of friends from US. Surely, I don't suggest spam lists but having 5,000 US visitors is not a bad at all. Just send a link suggestion in your profile with your Amazon affiliate ID included and let the cash flow to your account. There is some very useful information here for a beginner, which I am! I do not have my own websites and my blog was set up when I had absolutely no clue how to make money with blogging other then that it was possible, keywords and seo and traffic generation were all something I have had to learn in the last few months. I am still mostly writing here on hub pages as its really great for people who are still learning. Its a steep learning curve!

Wow. Very good article. You're right about narrowing down traffic. You can bring lots of traffic, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll make sales because the keyword may be more for visitors who are searching rather than visitors who are buying.
I've never tried SEM Rush, but I've recently started using Market Samurai, and I love how easy it is to use and how it can help you find keywords that are commercial.
From the list above, I believe articles marketing is the best way to make real money with Amazon Affiliate - simple because it's the content that persuade people for shopping, not just the links.
I think luck is also an important factor. It's good when a buyer not only buy the product you recommend, but goes on to buy a lot of other things.

Question for you...I have been using HubPages and other sites for Amazon affiliate. I checked my account recently and going back to July 1, it says there have been 635 product link clicks and 6870 other clicks..yet zero orders. Is this common? I have a hard time believing that I have been responsible for over 7500 clicks and not one single person has purchased anything.
@jqmurf2 : It can happen if your products are unrelated or have no demand. Write exact product reviews which have moderate-to-high demand. Also; "best of" ,"top rated" comparison lists work efficiently as well. You should be using Google Adwords keywords tool to determine the key phrases you will write about.
* First of all, check the keyphrase in hubpages. If the keywords have been widely used before, it is hard to rank again for another page (although it is possible with heavy backlinking). In search engines, "First come first served" for long term traffic :)
* Check "exact" keyphrase monthly searches. It is better if there are more than 1,000 searches.
* Check in google search intitle:"keyphrase". Look at the competition and number of indexed pages with exact title.
* Use "Buy on Amazon", "Buy from Amazon", "Lowest Price on Amazon" keywords in hub Amazon title. It works.
That's it. :) You will surely rank in first page with quality content, if not the first place. You should be averaging minimum 3% for product reviews on Amazon although I can rise up to 6% these heavy holiday shopping months.

@TilenHrovatic I sell very cheap under $10 items to boost my fee commission to %8 fast (it depends on number of sales) and $100 - $500 electronics to generate money. I am successful at promoting cell phone accessories, electronics, small home appliances, books and a bit of toys, pc games. You should write a specific product review or a best of, top selling list with comparison. It takes time and patience to make serious money with Amazon.
p.s: I have already passed $2500/month Amazon earnings level in my blog network and hubpages gets more than $1000 from it. So, hubpages is valuable and worth of investing time :)

You can not directly send Amazon affiliate links by email. It is against Amazon terms. You should first direct the traffic to your website.

I have been selling Amazon products for a year now and thought was really up with all the facts-your post tells me I still have a learning curve, especially on keywords-some of my sites do ok if they have a keyword in the domain-problem found was that product has a time limit as there is always a updated product with a different name. so I now use Google Insights to see if product interest is falling off or not-here is the link

Very interesting point regarding StumbleUpon. Since I prefer more marketing strategies which lead to everyday traffic I have never spent too much time with social bookmarking. However, this is first time I see somebody to recommend StumbleUpon as a traffic source which may convert well.
